KKR defeated SRH by eight wickets to win IPL 2024.
In a stunning display of dominance, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) clinched their third IPL title by overpowering Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the final showdown. The three-time champions asserted their superiority by finishing atop the league standings and securing victory in Qualifier 1 against Hyderabad, culminating in their triumph on May 26 at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.
Whether wielding the bat or the ball, KKR exhibited relentless prowess throughout the season, a feat that left skipper Shreyas Iyer bursting with pride for his team’s invincible performance. The 29-year-old captain lauded his players for their flawless execution, emphasizing that they consistently met and even exceeded expectations.

Reflecting on the match, the Mumbai-born cricketer acknowledged the closely contested nature of the game, noting that it could have swung in either direction given Sunrisers Hyderabad’s strong performance throughout the season. He emphasized the significance of winning the toss, expressing satisfaction at the decision to bowl first, a pivotal factor in their triumph.
“The game could have (gone) either way. They have been playing phenomenal cricket – SRH – throughout the season. We were lucky to bowl first and every situation went in our favour. Thanks to SRH the way they played. Looking forward to play more competitive cricket,” he said.
On May 27, KKR captain Shreyas Iyer shared a picture on social media, posing with the trophy next to a swimming pool. In the caption, the batsman humorously remarked that he’s taking the trophy with him wherever he travels.
The IPL victory celebration continued into the late hours of the night as players reveled in the joy of their win. Several videos capturing the festivities have surfaced online, with clips showing Abhishek Nayar, Varun Chakravarthy, and Ramandeep Singh dancing to the tune of the track “Desi Boyz,” quickly going viral.
