In IPL 2024, Shreyas Iyer articulated the sensation of securing an IPL championship for KKR as surreal, as genuine emotions unfolded following the triumph. Iyer joined the ranks as the 5th Indian captain to hoist an IPL trophy.
Shreyas Iyer’s heartfelt emotions surged as KKR triumphantly raised the IPL 2024 trophy, outplaying SRH. In a video featured on the IPL’s official website, Iyer expressed the significance of clinching an IPL title for KKR. The Knights etched their names in history books, securing their third IPL championship. KKR’s dominant performance saw them convincingly defeat SRH by 8 wickets at the M Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Sunday, May 26th.
Iyer, while speaking in the video was out of words to describe the feeling as he felt it was an unreal moment.
“The feeling is unbelievable right now. I am not able to digest the fact that we have already won. It doesn’t seem real to be honest. Just want to soak this moment and enjoy with everyone, the family member, the support system who have been there with us throughout. Yeah man, never felt so happy,” Iyer said in the video.
Iyer ascends to an exclusive roster of captains.
Iyer now stands among the esteemed ranks of Indian captains such as MS Dhoni, Rohit Sharma, Gautam Gambhir, and Hardik Pandya, who have all raised the IPL trophy. In the post-match presentations, Iyer echoed the sentiment that the entire squad felt invincible throughout the season.
KKR, the table-toppers, exhibited true championship caliber throughout the campaign. The Knights secured the pinnacle of the points table with just 3 losses in 14 matches. Their journey culminated in defeating SRH in Qualifier 1, earning a direct passage to the final. KKR continued the six-year tradition of teams winning Qualifier 1 going on to claim the season’s ultimate prize.
Ian Bishop emphasized that Shreyas Iyer deserved greater recognition for his leadership of the KKR squad throughout the tournament.
“Shreyas Iyer, there’s much talk about Gautam Gambhir and the fantastic culture he instilled in the KKR team. But I feel this individual isn’t receiving due credit. I’ve mentioned this before. Some might have disagreed when I voiced this on social media, but Shreyas Iyer truly deserves acknowledgment,” remarked the legendary Ian Bishop on Sunday, reiterating his viewpoint during the final’s commentary.
Iyer displayed unwavering confidence while leading his team, maintaining composure throughout IPL 2024. Despite a less-than-ideal start to the season, Iyer gradually gained momentum, culminating in a total of 351 runs from 15 matches by the season’s end.
