Abhishek Sharma showcased an explosive performance for India during the second T20I against Zimbabwe on Sunday (July 7). At Harare Sports Club, the dynamic left-hander blazed his way to a magnificent century, scoring 100 runs off just 47 balls. His innings was highlighted by 7 fours and 8 towering sixes, including a stunning display where he hammered three consecutive sixes off Wellington Masakadza in the 14th over.
Partnering with Ruturaj Gaikwad, who remained unbeaten on 77 runs, Abhishek contributed significantly to India’s commanding total. His stellar knock not only secured victory but also etched his name in history as the fastest Indian batter to reach a T20I century, achieving the feat in just his second innings.
After a challenging debut the previous day, where he failed to score, Abhishek bounced back emphatically, smashing a six off the very first ball he faced in the match. From then on, he dominated the Zimbabwean bowlers, effortlessly finding the boundaries and showcasing his prowess with the bat.
His exceptional performance did not go unnoticed, as Indian captain Shubman Gill, witnessing from the dressing room, applauded Abhishek’s achievement with a standing ovation. It was indeed a memorable day for the young SRH batsman, marking his arrival on the international stage in grand style.
Watch out Gill Reaction-
While Abhishek Sharma shone brightly with a splendid century in the second match against Zimbabwe, Indian captain Shubman Gill had a brief stint at the crease, managing only two runs from four balls before being dismissed by pacer Blessing Muzarabani in the second over.
Despite Gill’s early departure, India posted a formidable total of 234 runs for the loss of two wickets in their allotted 20 overs, a score that ultimately proved insurmountable for the Sikandar Raza-led Zimbabwe side.
In reply, Zimbabwe struggled to build partnerships and chase down the target set by India. They were bowled out for 134 runs in 18.4 overs. Opener Wessly Madhevere top-scored with 43 runs off 39 balls, while Luke Jongwe contributed 33 runs, but it was not enough to challenge India’s dominant performance. After losing the first T20I, India bounced back strongly to level the series with a convincing victory in the second encounter.
Indian pacers Avesh Khan and Mukesh Kumar impressed with three wickets each, dismantling the Zimbabwean batting lineup. Adding to the bowling prowess was Ravi Bishnoi, who conceded a mere 11 runs in his four overs while claiming two crucial wickets.
Looking ahead, the stage is set for the third T20I between India and Zimbabwe, slated to unfold at Harare Sports Club on Wednesday (July 10).
