Rohit Sharma’s Team India is poised to end a ten-year ICC title drought as they prepare to face South Africa in the T20 World Cup 2024 final on Saturday in Barbados. The Indian captain has surged into form with consecutive half-centuries and currently ranks third in the tournament’s leading run-scorers. As experts laud Rohit’s leadership throughout the event, his adversaries have also showered him with praise ahead of the highly anticipated final.
In a video posted by Star Sports on social media, Keshav Maharaj, Heinrich Klaasen, David Miller, and Kagiso Rabada shared their perspectives on the Team India captain.
“I have always been a huge fan of Rohit Sharma. From a batting perspective, he is fearless. From a leadership perspective, you can see he read the game very well. He finds a way to throw everyone in together and make everyone feel comfortable. But I also feel, his tactfulness on the field to approach each character and bring out the best in them is something that stands out for me,” said Keshav Maharaj.
Klaasen praised Rohit as a cricketing strategist, emphasizing his skill in manipulating the opposition’s mindset to his advantage.
“I think he has got an unbelievable cricket brain. Very gutsy. He makes a lot of brave calls as a captain. He does play on your ego a lot. I’d like to have a conversation about how he thinks. He is a special cricketer. When he is in form, there are not a lot of bowlers who can bowl at him. Hopefully, he won’t be in form against us (in the final.),” said Klaasen.
“He’s always calm. Seems like he’s got it all together,” said Miller.
Rabada described Rohit as “one of India’s finest batsmen,” He’s always chilled.
Regarding the potential final appearances of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli in T20 cricket, Indian fans are hopeful for a memorable last performance from these two stalwarts in the shortest format, at least in the Indian jersey. Observing the direction of Indian cricket, whether from the BCCI leadership or the national selectors, there appears to be a desire for Kohli, Rohit, and Ravindra Jadeja to conclude their T20 careers on a high note. The upcoming series against Zimbabwe next month is seen as a transitional phase leading up to the 2026 T20 World Cup, which will be hosted in India.
