Former England pacer Stuart Broad has playfully criticized Virat Kohli and the ICC over an Instagram tribute post dedicated to the Indian batsman ahead of the T20 World Cup final.
India and South Africa are set to face each other in the final of the ongoing ICC T20 World Cup 2024 on Saturday (June 29) at the Kensington Oval in Barbados. South Africa secured their place in the final by defeating Afghanistan in the first semifinal, while India overcame reigning champions England in the second semifinal.
Before the title match, the ICC chose to honor Virat Kohli, acknowledging his impressive achievements as one of the most accomplished batsmen in T20 World Cup history. Despite never winning the tournament, Kohli holds the record for the highest run tally and most half-centuries in T20 World Cups. Since his debut in 2012, he has amassed 1216 runs in 34 matches at an outstanding average of 57.90.
Kohli has also achieved the distinction of finishing as the highest run-scorer in the T20 World Cup twice, in 2014 and 2022. With his stellar performance in the current tournament, Kohli aims to clinch his first T20 World Cup title this year.
Stuart Broad mocks ICC for their tribute to Virat Kohli, featuring him on a throne in his India jersey alongside past T20 World Cup images.
“The last jewel remains missing from the crown of the king 👑Virat Kohli is one step away from #T20WorldCup glory,” ICC captioned the picture.
Stuart Broad couldn’t resist poking fun at the ICC and Kohli, playfully questioning, “IPL?”
Despite being the highest run-scorer in IPL history, Virat Kohli has yet to win the tournament.
