India’s chief selector Ajit Agarkar has clarified why Suryakumar Yadav wasn’t included in India’s ODI squad for the Sri Lanka tour. Despite being appointed as India’s T20I captain following Rohit Sharma’s retirement from the format, Suryakumar Yadav didn’t secure a spot in the ODI lineup, which came as a significant surprise.
While Yadav has shown promising performances in T20 cricket, including impressive outings in the IPL and domestic competitions, his ODI record has been more moderate.
Ajit Agarkar explains Suryakumar Yadav’s omission from the ODIs.
During a media interaction before India’s departure for the Sri Lanka tour, Agarkar shed light on the rationale behind Suryakumar Yadav’s inclusion solely in the T20I squad and not the ODIs.
“At this point, Surya is being seen just as a T20 player, not being considered for ODIs,” Agarkar said.
