Suryakumar Yadav, recently appointed as India’s T20I captain, discussed the team’s approach to unity following their third T20I against Sri Lanka. Yadav emphasized that rather than forming small groups of 2-3 players, the team has committed to staying together through every situation.
In the final T20I at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium on July 30, Team India underwent significant changes, making four alterations to their playing XI. Despite a shaky start that saw them falter to 48/5 after opting to bat first, the Men in Blue managed to muster 137 runs in their allotted 20 overs.
Sri Lanka appeared well-positioned for a successful chase at one point. However, they faced a collapse similar to the preceding matches, losing their last seven wickets for just 22 runs. The game ultimately progressed to a Super Over, where India clinched victory.
Trend Started From T20I World Cup – Suryakumar Yadav
In his post-match remarks, Suryakumar Yadav underscored the team’s new practice of sitting together through thick and thin, a departure from smaller cliques. He noted that this strategy was initially embraced during the T20 World Cup to enhance team cohesion.
“Trend started from T20I World Cup that we have decided that we will not sit in small groups like 2-3 players, we will sit together in every moment whether the situation is good or bad & this helped us a lot in terms of our bonding in the team,” Suryakumar told Sony Sports Network.
Suryakumar Yadav took charge of the final over instead of Mohammed Siraj. Making his mark in T20 Internationals, he claimed two crucial wickets and gave away just five runs, bringing Sri Lanka level with India’s score. In the subsequent Super Over, the Indian captain smashed a boundary off the first ball, swiftly sealing victory with three runs required to clinch the match.
Rohit Sharma Ka Chela Hai Suryakumar Yadav – Mohammad Kaif
Praising Suryakumar Yadav after India’s series triumph against Sri Lanka, ex-cricketer Mohammad Kaif commended Yadav for his exemplary leadership. Kaif pointed out that Yadav had imbibed leadership skills from Rohit Sharma and underscored Yadav’s pivotal contributions, especially in bowling the decisive over that secured India’s victory.
“Bhai Rohit Sharma ka chela hai Surya.. 19th over Rinku se, 20th over khud SKY and won the game (Surya is Rohit Sharma’s protege. Rinku bowled the 19th over, SKY bowled the 20th over himself, and won the game). What else one needs to be a great leader?,” Kaif wrote on X (formerly known as Twitter).
Suryakumar Yadav won’t feature in the upcoming three-match ODI series in Sri Lanka, as Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli make their return to the squad. The series kicks off with the first ODI scheduled at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo on Friday, August 2nd.
