Ahead of their opening match in the T20 World Cup 2024, the Indian team engaged in a productive net session, as captured in a video released by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). The footage, shared on the Indian Cricket Team’s official Instagram handle, offered glimpses of the squad’s preparations at Cantiague Park, New York, under the leadership of Rohit Sharma.
The video showcased various players honing their skills on a sunny day, with particular focus on Hardik Pandya. Pandya was depicted practicing his on-drive, striving for precision in timing as the team readies itself for the prestigious tournament. Despite facing challenges during his return to the Mumbai Indians in the Indian Premier League 2024, Pandya’s significance to the Indian side remains paramount. His involvement in bowling drills in the video suggests improved fitness, potentially alleviating concerns in that regard.
In the video, the focus shifted to the spinners, who were prominently showcased during the net session. Players such as Kuldeep Yadav, Yuzvendra Chahal, Ravindra Jadeja, and Axar Patel were seen honing their craft, delivering various deliveries in the nets.
The video also highlighted the pace bowling department, with Jasprit Bumrah and Arshdeep Singh prominently featured. Alongside them, Avesh Khan and Khaleel Ahmed were also seen in action. Bumrah and Arshdeep appear to be leading contenders for spots in the starting XI, likely alongside Mohammed Siraj. While Bumrah seems to be in fine form, concerns arise regarding the consistency of Arshdeep and Siraj, who have been prone to conceding runs. Addressing these issues will be crucial for India’s success in the tournament.
Within the batting lineup, top-ranked batter Suryakumar Yadav showcased his finesse with flick shots towards the on-side. Sanju Samson also joined in, exhibiting his prowess in power-hitting, alongside Shivam Dube.
India is scheduled to kick off their T20 World Cup 2024 campaign against Ireland on June 5. Subsequently, they will face Pakistan, USA, and Canada in the group stage fixtures.
The initial three matches are set to be held at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York, with the final group stage game scheduled at the Central Broward Park & Broward County Stadium in Lauderhill, Florida.
