Team India and their fans have reason to celebrate as the squad is scheduled to arrive in Delhi on July 3 (Wednesday). Following their victory in the T20 World Cup 2024 final against South Africa, the team faced an extended stay in Barbados due to Hurricane Beryl impacting the region. Currently accompanying them in Barbados are BCCI secretary Jay Shah and his team.
Hurricane Beryl, the first of the 2024 Atlantic season, struck the Caribbean island of Carriacou, affecting Barbados, Grenada, Tobago, and St. Vincent among other islands. Barbados, where India recently claimed the T20 World Cup, experienced flight cancellations due to the storm’s resurgence to Category 4 strength with winds reaching up to 130 miles (209 kilometers) per hour.
Team India to land in Delhi on this date
As per information from India Today, the Indian team is scheduled to depart from Barbados on Tuesday (July 2) at 6 pm local time. They are expected to arrive in Delhi around 7:45 pm on Wednesday (July 3). The BCCI has reportedly arranged a special flight to facilitate their return.
“Good news. The Indian team to finally fly out of Barbados on a special flight arranged by BCCI Tuesday 6pm local time. To land in Delhi around 7.45 pm Wednesday,” Vikrant Gupta, India Today’s sports journalist posted on X (formerly Twitter).
In the meantime, the South African team has already departed for their country on a chartered flight organized by Cricket South Africa (CSA).
Barbados Prime Minister says Airport to open in the next six to twelve hoursĀ
Considering all the preparations, the Prime Minister of Barbados expects the airport to reopen within the next 6 to 12 hours.
“We hope, and we’re working towards later today. I don’t want to speak in advance of it, but I’ve literally been in touch with the airport personnel and they’re doing their last checks now and we want to resume normal operations as a matter of urgency,” Mia Mottley, Barbados Prime Minister, told PTI.
“There are a number of people who were due to leave yet last night late or today or tomorrow morning. And we want to make sure that we can facilitate those persons, so I would anticipate that within the next six to 12 hours that the airport will be open,” she added.
In a long-awaited victory, India secured their second T20 World Cup title after 17 years, their first triumph dating back to the inaugural 2007 edition of the tournament. This victory also marks India’s end to a prolonged drought in ICC trophies, with their last win in an ICC event occurring in 2013 during the Champions Trophy under MS Dhoni’s captaincy. Despite numerous knockout appearances since then, India had been unable to clinch another ICC title until now.
