Bayjedul Islam Khan, the physiotherapist for the Bangladesh National Cricket Team, has given an update on Taskin Ahmed’s injury as the team prepares for their Test series against Pakistan. He confirmed that Taskin’s injury has not worsened, and he is fit to participate in the longest format of the game.
Bangladesh is gearing up for a two-match Test series in Pakistan, starting with the first Test in Rawalpindi on August 21. The second Test will take place in Karachi on August 30. Both matches are part of the ICC Test Championship.
Bangladesh has yet to announce their squad for the upcoming Test series against Pakistan, but several players are already putting in significant effort to prepare for the matches. The team is intensifying their training in anticipation of securing crucial ICC World Test Championship points.
As the series approaches, there has been considerable speculation regarding the fitness of fast bowler Taskin Ahmed. Taskin has been struggling with a shoulder injury, which has kept him out of Test cricket for some time.
Since June of last year, Taskin has not played any Test matches, focusing instead on white-ball formats. He participated in the T20 World Cup held in the USA and the West Indies in June, but his involvement in Test cricket has been limited due to his injury.
In preparation for the tour of Pakistan, Bangladesh players underwent fitness assessments, including Taskin Ahmed. BCB physiotherapist Bayjedul Islam Khan provided an update on Taskin’s condition. He confirmed that while Taskin’s shoulder injury remains, it has not worsened. Bayjedul assured that Taskin is still in contention for the Test series, giving hope to fans and the team alike.
“Taskin has played in the T20 format as of late. So, he did not bowl for long spells during this period. He had a shoulder issue, which he even got rechecked during the T20 World Cup [in the USA and the West Indies in June]. The thing is, the damage he had at that time, is the same now as it has not aggravated.”
If he continues his rehabilitation and the workouts, Taskin can survive – BCB physio Bayjedul
BCB physio Bayjedul Islam Khan has made a significant announcement regarding Taskin Ahmed’s availability for the Test series against Pakistan. He indicated that Taskin could be considered for selection if he continues with his rehabilitation and training. Bayjedul stated that, provided Taskin’s condition improves, he will be fit to participate in the series.
“A player can play by managing these [types of injuries]. If he continues his rehabilitation and the workouts, Taskin can survive. Based on that, Taskin is available.
“But as for bowling workload in Tests where you need to bowl longer spells, a player needs to get up to that speed. So, he will try to do that, and if he feels better then he can play in Tests.”
The Bangladesh National Cricket Team is scheduled to depart for Pakistan on August 17. They will be aiming to secure a series victory and provide their fans with a reason to celebrate.
