Former Australia cricketer Tom Moody has weighed in on the T20 World Cup 2024 final between India and South Africa, tipping the scales slightly in favor of the Rohit Sharma-led Indian team.
The final showdown between India and South Africa is set to take place at the Kensington Oval in Bridgetown, Barbados, on Saturday, June 29th. Both teams have showcased exceptional cricket throughout the tournament, promising an exhilarating clash.
India has been in sublime form with both bat and ball throughout the competition. They remained undefeated in the group stage, winning three out of three matches with one game washed out. Progressing to the Super 8 stage, they continued their dominance by defeating Afghanistan, Bangladesh, and Australia to secure a spot in the semifinals.
In the semifinal against England, India delivered a commanding performance, excelling in challenging conditions. They posted a formidable total and then dismantled England for just 103 runs, winning by a convincing margin of 68 runs to advance to the final.
Similarly, South Africa, under the leadership of Aiden Markram, has also been outstanding in the T20 World Cup 2024, maintaining an undefeated record. They displayed their prowess in the semifinal against Afghanistan by restricting them to a mere 56 runs and comfortably chasing down the target to seal their place in the final.
With both teams entering the final unbeaten, South Africa will be determined to clinch their maiden T20 World Cup title. However, Moody believes India’s consistent performance and dominance throughout the tournament give them a slight edge heading into the highly anticipated final clash.
Tom Moody – India in my view favourite but in saying that you’d be brave to right off SA
Ahead of the T20 World Cup 2024 final between India and South Africa, Tom Moody expressed his view on the likely winner. He considers the Rohit Sharma-led Indian team as favorites for the title but cautioned against underestimating the strength of the Proteas. Sharing his thoughts on his X account, Moody elaborated:
“Both India and South Africa are very deserving finalists, both undefeated throughout the tournament. India in my view favourites but in saying that you’d be brave to right off SA with so many match winners!”
South Africa is making their maiden appearance in the final of any ICC World Cup, having previously faced setbacks in semifinals. They are determined to reverse this trend. Meanwhile, India’s last ICC title victory was in 2013, and they are keen to break their championship drought.
