Team India clashed with Zimbabwe in the second match of their five-game T20I series on Sunday (July 8). Led by Shubman Gill, India triumphed over the hosts by a resounding 100-run margin, drawing the series level.
India, having lost the series opener by 13 runs, turned the tables in the second encounter with a commanding performance. Opting to bat first proved to be a masterstroke by Captain Shubman Gill as India posted a colossal total of 234 for 2 in their allotted 20 overs. The standout performer was opener Abhishek Sharma, who marked his presence in international cricket with a blazing century off just 46 balls.
Abhishek Sharma, who had a forgettable debut in the first T20I, showcased his prowess with 7 fours and 8 sixes, setting the stage for India’s imposing total. Ruturaj Gaikwad (77 off 47 balls) and Rinku Singh (48 off 22 balls) also contributed significantly to India’s formidable innings.
In response, Zimbabwe struggled to mount a challenge and were bundled out for a modest 134 runs. Opener Wessly Madhevere top-scored for Zimbabwe with 43 runs. India’s bowling attack, led by Mukesh Kumar and Avesh Kumar who both claimed 2 wickets each, kept the hosts in check throughout the innings.
During the match, an amusing incident involving Ravi Bishnoi added a light-hearted moment. In the 9th over of Zimbabwe’s innings, Bishnoi’s delivery outside leg stump prompted a reverse sweep attempt from Johnathan Campbell. Initially signaled as a wide by the umpire, the decision was quickly reversed after Bishnoi queried the call, leading to smiles all around.
India’s comprehensive victory in the second T20I showcased their dominance and leveled the series, setting the stage for an intriguing remainder of the series.

Speaking of Bishnoi’s performance, the young spinner continued to shine, taking 2 wickets for just 11 runs in his 4 overs. In the series opener, he had claimed 4 wickets while conceding only 13 runs across 4 overs, including two maiden overs. The third match of the series is scheduled for Wednesday (July 10).
