Indian captain Rohit Sharma has shown exceptional form throughout the T20 World Cup 2024. Despite a tentative start in the tournament held in the United States, Rohit has quickly found his rhythm, notably in the recent matches against England and Australia.
Following the early dismissals of Virat Kohli and Rishabh Pant, Rohit Sharma steadied the ship alongside Suryakumar Yadav, forging a crucial 73-run partnership off 50 balls.
During their stand, Rohit Sharma displayed his attacking intent against Sam Curran in the 13th over. After Suryakumar hit a six off the first delivery, Rohit was seen communicating to his partner that he would capitalize on any fuller deliveries from the bowler.
“Upar dega toh deta hu na (if he overpitches, I will hit him)”, said Rohit Sharma.
Rohit Sharma delivered on his promise against Curran, smashing the fuller delivery over the fine-leg boundary to reach a well-deserved half-century. Together with Suryakumar Yadav, they added crucial runs, guiding India to a competitive total of 171/7 at the conclusion of their innings.
In the second innings, India’s spinners Axar Patel and Kuldeep Yadav took center stage, each claiming three wickets. Their stellar performance effectively dashed any hopes of the defending champions chasing down the target, propelling India into the highly anticipated final showdown.
Rohit Sharma will soon have another chance to claim a major title as India prepares to face unbeaten South Africa in the summit clash set to unfold in Barbados.
India, considered strong contenders, could potentially end their World Cup drought with a victory in this tournament. However, the outcome will hinge on the performance of both teams on the grand stage.
The Indian squad has already arrived in Barbados, gearing up for the eagerly anticipated final scheduled for Saturday at 8 PM IST.
