Suresh Raina, a prominent figure in Indian cricket, once formed a formidable partnership alongside MS Dhoni. His career saw significant success comparable to Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, but it concluded following Dhoni’s retirement in 2019.
Recently, during an interview with popular TV presenter Shefali Bagga, as part of the ongoing World Championship of Legends 2024 in the UK, Raina disclosed his all-time greatest of all time (GOAT) in cricket, a choice that may not surprise many.
In the conversation, Raina shared insights on various aspects of the game, including his favorite death-over specialist, his funniest cricketer friend, his most consistent player, and a prolific run machine. His reflections shed light on the depth of his cricketing experiences and preferences.
Suresh Raina names MS Dhoni as his GOAT.
In the video, Shefali Bagga queried Suresh Raina about his cricketing GOAT, to which he promptly replied with MS Dhoni’s name. Additionally, Raina dubbed Virat Kohli as the run-machine and Jasprit Bumrah as his preferred death-over specialist. Watch the video for more insights.
Following his retirement from the IPL, Suresh Raina, much like MS Dhoni, remained closely associated with the Chennai Super Kings. Joining the team since its inception in 2008, Raina was a stalwart until the 2021 season, although he was not selected in the 2022 mega auction by CSK or any other franchise.
Undeterred, Raina continued his cricket journey by transitioning into a commentator’s role. Over the past few seasons, he has established himself as a fan favorite in this new capacity.
In IPL 2024, MS Dhoni relinquished the captaincy of CSK, passing it to Ruturaj Gaikwad who led the team under his mentorship. Dhoni showcased impressive batting form throughout the season and remained non-committal about retirement post-tournament, hinting at a potential return for IPL 2025.
Meanwhile, Shefali Bagga, the interviewer of Suresh Raina in the aforementioned video, gained popularity from her stint on Bigg Boss and has become one of the most followed anchors in sports, actively participating in various T20 franchise leagues and amassing a large fanbase.
