In the video, Pat Cummins mentioned how he acknowledged Virat Kohli’s exceptional skills as a player but jokingly expressed his desire for him not to achieve a century in a match. The Australian Test captain shared that his social media accounts were flooded with messages six months later when Kohli did in fact score a century.
“If you live on social media at all, you get absolutely hounded by them. Say anything about Virat Kohli and look out for the next few years,” Cummins said during a recent interview.
“I remember I said something a few years ago and it was actually a compliment. I said that he is a gun player and hoped he would not score 100 and then after six months when he scored a 100, my social media blew up,” added the World Cup-winning captain.
Virat Kohli to take on the opening role for Team India in the upcoming T20 World Cup in 2024.
Virat Kohli, hailing from Delhi, is currently part of the Indian squad for the ninth edition of the T20 World Cup in the West Indies and the USA. Despite being rested from the warm-up match against Bangladesh, where India won by 60 runs in New York on June 1, Kohli has been in top form. In the 2024 IPL, playing for RCB, Kohli was the leading run-scorer with 741 runs at a strike rate of 154.69, including a century and five fifties as an opener.
Team India will begin its World Cup journey at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York on June 5. Kohli is likely to open the batting in the upcoming match, with Yashasvi Jaiswal not featuring in the warm-up game. The team, having last won an ICC trophy in 2013, is eager to break their 11-year drought in the prestigious tournament. It’s noteworthy that India had triumphed in the inaugural T20 World Cup in 2007 in South Africa.
