India’s cricket sensation Virat Kohli had a comedic moment recently when he was tricked into signing an autograph by an enthusiastic fan. The amusing episode unfolded following a training session in Colombo.
Kohli, who is currently in Sri Lanka with the Indian squad for an upcoming three-match ODI series, was finishing up a net session on Thursday, August 1. As he made his way back to the dressing room, he spotted a group of fans eagerly waiting to meet him. Kohli decided to take a moment to acknowledge them.
Among the fans was one who appeared to present a gift to the star batsman. When this particular fan asked for an autograph, Kohli responded with a playful and amused reaction, clearly feeling he had been cleverly duped.
“Sign karu kya? Aapne bola mere liye hai, abhi aake bol rhe ho sign. (Should I sign? You said it was for me, now you are asking for a sign.)”
The fan quickly clarified that there was no trickery involved. He explained that the photographs were meant for Kohli, while he himself wanted the autograph on his bat. Kohli responded with a chuckle, saying, “oh, acha, acha” (oh, okay), and then took the photos from the fan. He proceeded to sign several bats as requested.

Virat Kohli is set to make his highly anticipated return to One Day Internationals on Friday, August 2, when India faces Sri Lanka in the first ODI. This will mark Kohli’s first ODI appearance since the World Cup final in November last year. Kohli had an exceptional World Cup, amassing over 700 runs to become the tournament’s top scorer, and he will be eager to continue his impressive form in this new series.
This series also represents India’s first ODI engagement of the year. Having previously swept the three-match T20I series against Sri Lanka, the Indian team will be aiming to replicate that success in the ODI format.
