Virat Kohli Completes 1300 Fours In ODIs
Virat Kohli reached a significant milestone during the ODI series decider against Sri Lanka at R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo on Wednesday, August 7. He achieved his 1,300th boundary by hitting a four off Asitha Fernando on the fifth ball of the seventh over during the run chase.
At 35 years old, Kohli joined an elite group of players who have scored over 1,300 boundaries in ODIs, including Sachin Tendulkar (2,016), Sanath Jayasuriya (1,500), and Kumar Sangakkara (1,385).
Kohli added two more boundaries to his tally before being dismissed by left-arm spinner Dunith Wellalage in the 11th over. He scored 20 runs off 18 balls, including four boundaries. In the earlier matches of the series, Kohli had scored 24 (32) and 14 (19).
Rohit Sharma and his team faced a 110-run defeat in the series decider.
In the series decider, the Rohit Sharma-led team was dismissed for 138 runs in just 26.1 overs. Rohit Sharma (35 off 20), Washington Sundar (30 off 25), and Riyan Parag (15 off 13) were the only batsmen to reach double figures. The Indian team managed to score 67 runs in the powerplay but struggled thereafter.
Dunith Wellalage was the standout performer with five wickets, while Jeffrey Vandersay and Maheesh Theekshana each took two wickets. Asitha Fernando’s dismissal of Shubman Gill marked the beginning of India’s batting collapse.
Earlier, Sri Lanka set a target of 249 runs for the loss of seven wickets in their allotted 50 overs after winning the toss. Avishka Fernando top-scored with 96 runs off 102 balls, while Pathum Nissanka contributed 45 runs, and Kusal Mendis added 59 runs. Kamindu Mendis remained unbeaten on 23 off 19 balls.
In the series, Rohit Sharma was India’s highest run-scorer with 157 runs from three innings at an average of 52.33 and a strike rate of 141.44. Axar Patel scored 79 runs, and Virat Kohli and Shubman Gill added 58 and 57 runs, respectively.
