Vistara Airlines made a thoughtful gesture towards Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma upon Team India’s return to India following their victorious campaign in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024. Following a brief stopover in New Delhi, the team’s celebratory festivities are set to continue in Mumbai. The triumphant squad arrived in the country on Thursday, July 4, marking the culmination of their successful outing in the tournament.
The Indian team’s departure from Barbados, originally planned for Monday, faced a delay due to Hurricane Beryl. They eventually departed on Wednesday (July 3) and arrived at New Delhi’s IGI Airport early Thursday morning. Upon stepping out of the airport, jubilant celebrations ensued with a large crowd of fans eagerly waiting to greet their heroes. Rohit Sharma proudly displayed the trophy to the cheers of supporters, while Virat Kohli acknowledged them with a thumbs up.
From the airport, Team India proceeded to the ITC Maurya Hotel before heading to the residence of the Prime Minister. There, players and support staff had the honor of meeting with PM Narendra Modi, marking a special moment in their triumphant return home.
Following their meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Indian cricket team is set to depart for Mumbai to continue their celebrations. Their journey from Delhi to Mumbai will be aboard a Vistara flight with the flight number UK1845, which holds special significance as it incorporates the jersey numbers of both Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, the batting stalwarts of the team. Vistara Airlines has arranged this special gesture as a tribute to the achievements and contributions of these two iconic players.
Celebrations to continue in Mumbai for Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli alongside team India
Following their brief stopover in New Delhi, Team India is scheduled to arrive in Mumbai later in the evening to celebrate their triumphant victory in the World Cup with their fans. The team will participate in a grand victory march through the streets of Mumbai, featuring an open-top bus parade starting from the Air India Building at Nariman Point and culminating at the iconic Wankhede Stadium.
At Wankhede Stadium, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) will honor and felicitate the team for their outstanding achievement in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024. The event promises to be a memorable occasion, showcasing the team’s success and connecting with the passionate cricket-loving community in Mumbai.
India’s victory in the ninth edition of the T20 World Cup marks the end of their prolonged drought for a World Cup title. Prior to this win, the Men in Blue had not clinched a World Cup in any format since their triumph in 2011. Their campaign in the T20 World Cup 2024 concluded flawlessly, with India maintaining an unbeaten record throughout the tournament.
While the victorious team celebrates their remarkable achievement in Mumbai, another Indian squad, comprising less experienced players, is currently in Zimbabwe. This second-string team is actively preparing for an upcoming five-match series scheduled from July 6 to 14 in Harare.
