Virat Kohli Sets Test Retirement Date
Former Indian captain Virat Kohli’s Test career is nearing its end, as his recent struggles with form and technique have raised doubts about his future in the longest format. With his lean patch stretching over the last few years, Kohli’s inconsistent performances are reportedly making it difficult for the selection committee, led by Ajit Agarkar, to consider him for India’s upcoming tour of England.
At 36, the once-dominant batter has seen a significant dip in his Test performances. Despite a stellar career overall, Kohli has averaged just 31.32 in his last 38 Test matches leading up to the ongoing fifth Test in Sydney. His technical flaws and issues with his setup at the crease have contributed to his decline. Kohli entered the 2024-25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy on the back of a poor home series against New Zealand, where he managed a dismal average of under 16 across three Tests.
While he started the BGT with a brilliant second-innings century in Perth, Kohli has struggled since, with an average of only 27.83 from four Tests in Australia. As his Test career teeters on the edge, the future of India’s former captain remains uncertain.

Virat Kohli Will Retire at Oval After Fifth Test – Kushan Sarkar
Sports journalist Kushan Sarkar has highlighted that Virat Kohli’s recent form is complicating the selection process for the upcoming England series. Sarkar also pointed out growing speculation that Kohli could retire after the fifth Test at The Oval, but for that to happen on his own terms, he must deliver with the bat and score crucial runs.
“Virat Kohli is making it increasingly difficult for the Ajit Agarkar-led national selection committee to pick him for the England series. There’s a theory doing rounds that he will retire at Oval after fifth Test. But to do it his own way, he needed runs and now Oval retirement seems a distant dream,” Kushan Sarkar
