Despite the chatter, both Kohli and Rohit have consistently stood united, offering unwavering support to each other both on and off the field. This camaraderie was prominently displayed following Team India’s triumph in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024. India clinched the coveted trophy with a thrilling seven-run victory over South Africa in the final on June 29 in Barbados.
After securing their first ICC trophy in 11 years, Kohli and Rohit were visibly emotional, shedding tears that underscored the beauty of sport. Kohli announced his retirement from T20I cricket immediately after the match during the post-match presentation, while Rohit concluded his T20I career amidst the celebrations, marking the end of an era in Indian cricket.

Virat Kohli – It is going to be a very special memory from the final
During the felicitation ceremony at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, Kohli shared about the meaningful moments, highlighting his 15-year bond with Rohit which had been a topic of much discussion within the cricket community since India’s triumph in the T20 World Cup 2024.
Virat Kohli said : “I don’t know about breaking the internet but this is the first time in 15 years of playing together that I’ve seen Rohit show so much emotions on the field. When I was walking up the steps, I was crying, he was crying, and we hugged.
For me, that’s going to be a very special memory from that day, because all said and done, after so many years, our only goal has been this. The only goal has been Indian cricket and the Indian flag. And that’s what we take pride in.”
Thirteen years ago, Kohli celebrated winning the 2011 World Cup at Wankhede Stadium, where senior players like Sachin Tendulkar, Yuvraj Singh, Virender Sehwag, and Harbhajan Singh were visibly moved to tears.
Reflecting on the ODI World Cup 2011 victory, Kohli confessed that he didn’t fully grasp the depth of his seniors’ emotional reactions back then. However, now having secured his first T20 World Cup title, he comprehends and deeply appreciates the significance of those emotions.
Kohli signed off by saying, “When I won the World Cup [in 2011], honestly, I couldn’t connect with the emotions of the senior players at that point of time. I was like ‘I don’t understand why they are crying’. For me, it felt like ‘Yeah, we won the World Cup. It’s as easy as that. I was 22-23.”
