India and Sri Lanka are currently engaged in a three-match T20I series, with India having already secured the series by winning the first two matches.
In the opening game, India triumphed by 43 runs. They followed this with a 7-wicket victory in the second match, using the DLS method to seal their series win. Riding high on their current form and momentum, Suryakumar Yadav’s team is now aiming to complete a clean sweep by winning the third and final T20I.
Following the T20I series, the two teams will continue their competition in the 50-over format. India and Sri Lanka are set to face off in a three-match ODI series, marking their first ODI encounter since their World Cup clash last year. All matches of this series will be played in Colombo, starting from August 2.
In preparation for the ODIs, Virat Kohli has arrived in Colombo. Although the former India captain was initially expected to rest for this series, both he and Rohit Sharma reportedly decided to participate after newly-appointed head coach Gautam Gambhir requested their availability.
Upon arriving in Colombo, Kohli immediately hit the nets, working hard with throwdowns as he readies himself for his first ODI assignment since last year’s World Cup.
Virat Kohli aims for a standout return.
Virat Kohli is eager to make an immediate impact in the upcoming ODI series against Sri Lanka. It’s been a while since he last played an ODI, having last featured in the World Cup final last November. Although India faced South Africa in an ODI series in December, Kohli was given a rest during that period.
Kohli enjoyed a remarkable World Cup campaign last year, finishing as the tournament’s top run-scorer and setting a new record for the most runs in a single World Cup edition. He amassed 765 runs across 11 matches, including three centuries and six half-centuries.
This series will also mark India’s first ODI engagement of the year, and they will be aiming to start with a series victory.
