Sri Lanka players Binura Fernando and Wanindu Hasaranga were fined by the Lankan Premier League (LPL) for breaching the player’s code of conduct during a match between the Colombo Strikers and Kandy Falcons on July 2.
Binura Fernando received a 20% fine of his match fee and a demerit point for disobeying umpires’ instructions, alongside a 25% fine for clothing regulation violations, totaling a 45% deduction from his match fees. Despite taking one wicket in an expensive spell of three overs conceding 26 runs, Fernando faced disciplinary actions he’d rather have avoided.
Meanwhile, Wanindu Hasaranga, despite a commendable performance with two wickets and a quickfire 25 runs off 13 balls for Kandy Falcons, was fined 25% of his match fee for breaching LPL clothing and equipment regulations.
The Colombo Strikers secured a convincing 51-run victory after posting 198 runs and then dismissing the Kandy Falcons for 147 runs at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium.
These are professional cricketers and I believe in them – Colombo Strikers skipper Thisara Perera
After leading the Colombo Strikers to victory against the Kandy Falcons, skipper Thisara Perera expressed his satisfaction with his new franchise. Reflecting on the match, he acknowledged the challenging batting conditions but emphasized his confidence in the team’s ability to perform under pressure. Perera added:
“Only changed my jersey, same tactics and same brain, everything same, I’m happy with this franchise. It’s not easy to bat, in the middle overs it is a bit sticky, and that’s why we plan to go run-a-ball. 180-190 is a good score on this wicket considering our powerful batting.
“I always back my bowlers, 2-3 big overs it happens in a big chase but we never put our head down. These are professional cricketers and I believe in them,” he concluded.
