Aakash Chopra and Virender Sehwag Join Forces to Publicly Criticize MS Dhoni on Live TV
Former Indian cricketer Virender Sehwag has once again taken a strong swipe at MS Dhoni following Chennai Super Kings’ latest crushing loss in IPL 2025. This time, Aakash Chopra also joined Sehwag in mocking Dhoni during a live TV broadcast. On Friday, April 11, CSK endured another humiliating defeat in IPL 2025, putting their campaign in serious jeopardy. Playing against Kolkata Knight Riders at MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai, the CSK squad delivered a shockingly poor performance, leaving fans disappointed and the team’s reputation in shambles in match 25 of the season.
CSK suffers embarrassing defeat against KKR at Chepauk
The Chennai Super Kings endured yet another forgettable outing in the IPL 2025, this time at the hands of the Kolkata Knight Riders, as they failed to put up even a modest fight at their home ground, the MA Chidambaram Stadium. Batting first, CSK barely managed to cross the 100-run mark, thanks to some late resistance from Shivam Dube, who remained unbeaten on 31, and Vijay Shankar, who chipped in with 29. The rest of the batting lineup crumbled under pressure, with Rahul Tripathi’s bizarre innings being the standout low point—he consumed 22 deliveries before being bowled by Sunil Narine without making any significant impact.
CSK’s innings was in trouble right from the start. They managed to score only 31 runs during the powerplay, and things quickly spiraled out of control as wickets fell at regular intervals. Kolkata’s spinners took full advantage of the slow pitch. Sunil Narine was exceptional, picking up 3 wickets for just 13 runs, while Varun Chakaravarthy was equally effective, claiming 2 for 18. Fast bowler Harshit Rana also played his part with two key breakthroughs that deepened CSK’s crisis.
Veteran MS Dhoni, coming in unusually low at number nine, couldn’t rescue the innings either. He managed just 1 run off 4 balls before falling LBW to Narine in the 16th over—a moment that stunned the usually boisterous Chepauk crowd into silence.
Chasing a meager target, KKR made light work of it. Sunil Narine starred once again, smashing a blazing 44 off just 18 balls, which included five towering sixes. Rinku Singh applied the finishing touch, hitting a massive six off Ravindra Jadeja to complete the chase in just 10.1 overs, capping off a dominant all-round performance by the visitors.
Virender Sehwag and Aakash Chopra team up to troll MS Dhoni after CSK’s humiliating collapse in IPL 2025
Meanwhile, Virender Sehwag has taken a brutal dig at Dhoni for his ongoing struggle against Narine in the IPL after the CSK skipper fell cheaply once again to the mystery spinner.
Sehwag pointed out how Narine has been consistently dismissing some of the biggest names in the game who are known for their reputation but have struggled to make an impact with the bat this season. It wasn’t just praise for Narine, but was also a clever jab at the CSK stars and the spinner, too.
Sehwag said while commentating in the CSK vs KKR match, “Sunil Narine has dismissed only the strongest batters. Tripathi, MS Dhoni, and Ravindra Jadeja. He has dismissed all three of them. I don’t think MS even hit a six against Narine. Akash, you know the stats better than me.”
Adding fuel to the fire, Aakash Chopra backed the point with a subtle reminder of how long it’s been since Dhoni even managed a boundary against Narine in the commentary box.
Aakash Chopra said, “I think he (MSD) didn’t even hit a four against Narine for a long time.”
Well, after losing five matches in a row, CSK now has only 2 points from 6 games. They are currently in 9th place on the IPL 2025 points table, just above Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH).
