Veteran Indian pacer Mohammed Shami produced a remarkable performance in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 on Thursday, February 20, during the match against Bangladesh. Shami’s exceptional bowling helped India secure a dominant position, as he took a five-wicket haul, making him the standout bowler for his team on the day.
The match, held at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium, saw Shami’s brilliant spell of fast bowling, which dismantled the Bangladesh batting lineup. His accuracy, pace, and ability to swing the ball proved too much for the Bangladeshi batsmen, as they struggled to handle his relentless pressure. Shami’s five-wicket haul was a testament to his skill and experience, and it played a pivotal role in India’s overall success in the match.
Shami’s performance not only highlighted his individual brilliance but also demonstrated the strength of India’s bowling attack in high-stakes international tournaments. His achievement became the focal point of the game, as he helped India maintain control throughout the innings, limiting Bangladesh’s scoring opportunities and taking crucial wickets at key moments.
As the match progressed, Shami’s performance became the talk of the cricketing world, with fans and pundits alike praising his outstanding ability to deliver when it mattered most. His achievement added to his growing legacy as one of the finest fast bowlers in Indian cricket history. On a day when his team needed him, Mohammed Shami rose to the occasion, ensuring his place as one of the tournament’s standout players.
On the fourth ball of the 49th over, Shami bowled a slower ball to Taskin on the pads and the Bangladesh star tried to flick it for a six. However, he didn’t make a good connection with the ball and was caught by Shreyas Iyer.
As Iyer completed the catch and Shami reached the five wickets milestone, he was delighted. Shami raised his arms in delight and gave a flying kiss to the sky to celebrate the moment.
India captain Rohit Sharma was also delighted to see Shami achieving the feat, and he celebrated wildly. Meanwhile, head coach Gautam Gambhir was seen clapping for Shami from the dugout.

I always wondered when I would be able to put my feet on the ground again – Mohammed Shami
Speaking ahead of the match, Shami spoke about his comeback journey from injury. The pacer said that he was skeptical if he would be able to play again for India.
“I always wondered when I would be able to put my feet on the ground again, as someone who is used to running on the field constantly was now in crutches,” Shami, 34, told ICC.tv.
“My first question to the doctor was ‘how many days until I can be back on the field’. He said, ‘my priority is to get you to walk, then jog, and then run and thinking about playing competitive cricket is still a distant goal’.
“After 60 days, when they asked me to put my feet on the ground, you won’t believe me, but I have never been more scared to put my foot on the ground. It felt like I was starting over, like a toddler learning how to walk, and I was worried about any complications,” he added.
