Ahead of the T20 World Cup 2024 match against Canada, Indian stars Rishabh Pant, Suryakumar Yadav, Sanju Samson, and Kuldeep Yadav expressed their admiration for captain Rohit Sharma. They highlighted his penchant for nurturing young talent within the team.

Rohit Sharma, India’s captain, has stood as one of the most exceptional players in Indian cricket history. Over the past decade, his role as an opening batsman has been pivotal, earning him widespread admiration and respect for his contributions to Indian cricket.

Rohit Sharma’s prowess as a batsman has been nothing short of extraordinary. Renowned as one of the premier opening batters in world cricket across all formats, he has delivered numerous stellar innings for the team. Alongside Virat Kohli, he has been instrumental in bolstering the team’s batting lineup, establishing their dominance on the global stage.

Since assuming leadership of the Indian team, Rohit Sharma has undergone a remarkable transformation. Beyond his stellar individual performances, he has demonstrated exceptional leadership qualities by fostering team unity and nurturing young talent. His approach with youngsters has earned widespread admiration and serves as a source of inspiration for all.

Rishabh Pant praised Rohit Sharma, expressing his admiration for the captain’s continual desire to learn and improve despite his considerable achievements. Speaking with the International Cricket Council (ICC) before the match against Canada, Pant highlighted:

“You know in cricket You always level up in a different way and you gotta keep learning. And I think that is something I really admire. He has played a lot of cricket but at the same time he still wants to improve himself each and every day.” 

Suryakumar Yadav shared his perspective on playing alongside Rohit Sharma, emphasizing how the India captain’s deep understanding of his game and his ability to revert to fundamentals when faced with challenges are qualities that he greatly values in his leader. Yadav further remarked:

“He understands his game really well. I’ve seen a lot of times when he’s stuck he always goes back to basics. That’s one thing which I really like about him.”

Sanju Samson highlighted the invaluable lessons he and other young players have gleaned from Rohit Sharma, emphasizing the captain’s ability to stay true to himself regardless of media attention. Samson underscored how Rohit’s composure under scrutiny serves as a guiding example for the team. He elaborated:

“What we all youngsters learn from him is how to be your own self actually. He doesn’t care about how many cameras are watching him or how many stump mics are listening to him. Actually he is absolutely himself.” 

Kuldeep Yadav while talking about Rohit Sharma said that the captain likes to keep everyone on his toes. He stated: 

“And obviously he is someone who likes all the youngsters that really keep him on toes all the time.”
