West Indies had initially stuck with an unchanged playing eleven for the second Test against England at Trent Bridge after their loss in the first Test at Lord’s. However, a late adjustment was necessary as spinner Gudakesh Motie fell ill on match day. Kevin Sinclair, a 24-year-old spinner, stepped in to replace him just before the match commenced.
“Gudakesh Motie has been replaced in the originally announced team by Kevin Sinclair. Motie woke up feeling unwell and is unable to take his place in the side,” said a Cricket West Indies spokesperson.
In the first Test, Gudakesh Motie showcased his all-round prowess with notable contributions both with bat and ball. He remained unbeaten on 14 and 31 in the respective innings, standing out as the sole West Indies player to surpass the 30-run mark. Notably, he dismissed Ben Stokes and Joe Root with impressive deliveries.
Meanwhile, Kevin Sinclair, who has featured in just one Test to date, made his debut earlier this year against Australia in Brisbane, where he claimed one wicket. His first-class record of 80 wickets from 29 matches underscores his proficiency as a right-arm spinner.
