West Indies aim to bounce back.
West Indies are aiming to rebound strongly in the upcoming second Test to even the score in the ongoing three-match series. Their defeat at Lord’s last week was resounding, prompting a critical need for vast improvements to challenge their formidable hosts.
During the first Test, West Indies struggled significantly, failing to surpass 150 runs in either innings as England dominated, clinching victory by an innings and 114 runs in just over two days. Opting to bat first, Kraigg Brathwaite’s side faltered, managing only 121 runs, with none of their batsmen reaching 30. Debutant Mikyle Louis showed promise with a top score of 27, but England’s Gus Atkinson stole the show on his debut, claiming a stunning 7 wickets for just 45 runs.
In response, England piled on 321 runs, supported by half-centuries from Zak Crawley, Ollie Pope, Harry Brook, Joe Root, and Jamie Smith. In their second innings, West Indies faltered again, mustering just 136 runs before being bowled out. Atkinson continued his stellar performance, securing 5 wickets, while James Anderson added 3 to his tally.
With the series at stake, West Indies must regroup swiftly and rectify their batting woes to pose a stronger challenge to England in the upcoming contest.
