Virat Kohli has reportedly been seen in London, planning to spend quality time with his wife and children. After a busy day attending celebratory events in India with his teammates following their T20 World Cup win, Kohli was spotted at Mumbai airport early Friday morning.
According to reports, the 35-year-old departed on a chartered flight at 3:15 AM IST. Pictures circulating on social media show Kohli at London airport, including a selfie with a fan.
Kohli has now secured victories in all three ICC white-ball tournaments as a player: the 2011 ODI World Cup, 2013 Champions Trophy, and the 2024 T20 World Cup. Despite coming close twice, as captain in 2021 and as a player in 2023, India finished as runners-up in the World Test Championship both times.
Following their return from Barbados on July 4, where they were delayed by Hurricane Beryl, the Indian team met Prime Minister Narendra Modi before embarking on an open-bus victory parade in Mumbai. The day culminated in a felicitation ceremony by the BCCI at Wankhede Stadium, where they were awarded a cash prize of Rs 125 crore.
Reflecting on the occasion, Kohli reminisced about winning the World Cup in 2011 when he was still quite young.
“Back when we won the World Cup in 2011 there were a lot of tears and I couldn’t understand, I was young and we had won the world cup. But, now, being a senior player, with Rohit (Sharma) beside, after playing for so long, it is special,” Kohli said.
Kohli mentioned that he has never witnessed Rohit show emotions on the field.
“We have been playing together for 15 years and this is the first time I’ve seen Rohit show so much emotion on the field. When I was walking up the steps, I was crying, he was crying and we hugged. That is a special moment,” he said.
