In 2024, Yashasvi Jaiswal of the India National Cricket Team achieved a significant milestone in international cricket. He became the first player of the year to amass 1000 runs across the two formats he participated in. 

This notable achievement occurred during the second T20I match against the Sri Lanka National Cricket Team. The match, which was the penultimate game of the series, was held at the Pallekele International Stadium in Pallekele on Sunday, July 28th.

Yashasvi Jaiswal continued his aggressive batting display in the match, propelling his team to victory and securing an unassailable 2-0 lead. The dynamic opener maintained his attacking mindset and ensured a blazing start as India chased down 78 runs in just 8 overs.

From the outset, Yashasvi Jaiswal took on the bowlers aggressively, unleashing powerful strokes to all parts of the ground. Building on his impressive performance of 40 runs in the previous game, the left-hander once again set the tone with his potent batting.

Jaiswal concluded his innings with a brisk 30 runs off 15 balls, striking at a phenomenal rate of 200. His innings included 3 fours and 2 sixes, effectively laying the foundation for India’s swift chase. His stellar contribution enabled India to reach the target in just 6.3 overs, cementing their dominance with a commanding 2-0 lead in the three-match T20I series.

Yashasvi Jaiswal’s performance in 2024 has been nothing short of extraordinary. The left-handed batsman has been a standout figure, amassing 740 runs in Test cricket alone, emerging as the top run-scorer in the format. His impressive tally came predominantly from the Test series against England earlier in the year. In T20Is, India’s opener has contributed 283 runs at a staggering strike rate of over 175.

Across all formats this year, spanning 13 matches, Yashasvi Jaiswal has displayed exceptional batting prowess. He has amassed a total of 1023 runs at an impressive average of 64 and a strike rate hovering around 104. Notably, he has registered two centuries and five half-centuries, underscoring his consistency and ability to convert starts into substantial scores.

With a significant portion of the cricket calendar still ahead for the India National Cricket Team in 2024, there is a strong possibility that Yashasvi Jaiswal could surpass the 2000-run mark by the year’s end, further solidifying his stature as a key player in the team’s batting lineup.
