A viral video captured Dhruv Jurel, a Rajasthan Royals teammate of Sanju Samson, jubilantly celebrating India’s triumph in the recent ICC T20 World Cup 2024 final. Jurel, known for his skills as a wicketkeeper-batsman, enthusiastically joined his friends in celebrating India’s thrilling victory.

In the final showdown against South Africa, India clinched the T20 World Cup title after an intense battle spanning 17 years. The match was marked by dramatic shifts in momentum, with India overcoming multiple setbacks to emerge victorious in Barbados.

Initially, India faced adversity when they opted to bat first and stumbled to 34 for 3 within the first 5 overs, losing key batsmen Rohit Sharma, Rishabh Pant, and Suryakumar Yadav. However, a resilient half-century by Virat Kohli (76) and a crucial 47-run contribution from Axar Patel steered India to a competitive total of 176/7.

South Africa’s chase initially looked promising after losing two early wickets in the powerplay, but they recovered well with Quinton de Kock and Tristan Stubbs forging a crucial 58-run partnership. Heinrich Klaasen then accelerated with a rapid fifty, putting South Africa in a commanding position.

With the score at 151/4 in the 16th over, and Klaasen and David Miller at the crease, victory seemed within easy reach for South Africa. However, India’s bowlers staged a remarkable comeback, stunningly restricting South Africa to 169/8 by the end of their innings, sealing a historic victory for India.

Dhruv Jurel’s unexpected support for South Africa

Amidst nationwide support for Team India in the final, Dhruv Jurel surprised many by revealing his allegiance to South Africa. He explained that he chose to back the Proteas after observing a pattern where the teams he supported ended up losing.

“When I was watching the final and cheering for India, South Africa came in the winning position. So I started cheering for South Africa and India made a comeback. I kept cheering for South Africa and India won the World Cup,” said Dhruv Jurel in a video posted by the BCCI.

Currently in Zimbabwe for the upcoming five-match T20I series, Dhruv Jurel, who recently made his Test debut with a strong performance, has now received his maiden call-up for T20Is. He aims to showcase his skills and make an impact in the upcoming series.
