Following India’s victorious campaign in the T20 World Cup 2024, former cricketer Aakash Chopra praised Rohit Sharma as a person with a heart of gold. Rohit guided the Indian cricket team to break an 11-year drought for an ICC trophy. Under his captaincy, India maintained an undefeated streak throughout the T20 World Cup tournament, culminating in a dominant performance in the final against South Africa to claim the prestigious trophy.

In the aftermath of this historic triumph, Chopra commended Rohit’s leadership qualities and highlighted his humble demeanor. The former cricketer noted that Rohit possesses a warm and affectionate personality that distinguishes him within the Indian dressing room.

“Why is his captaincy so good? It’s because he creates an atmosphere like that. Whoever you speak to says Rohit Bhaiya is a very good captain. I have not come across a single person who says Rohit is not a good guy. I cannot say that for everyone but can say that for Rohit. Everybody who I have spoken to praises him. He is 24-carat pure gold,” Aakash Chopra said on his YouTube channel.

Rohit Sharma made public his decision to retire from T20 International cricket during a press conference following the T20 World Cup final. His farewell from the format coincided with his achievement of matching the legendary MS Dhoni’s feat of winning the inaugural T20 World Cup in 2007. At that time, Aakash Chopra expressed confidence that Rohit’s legacy would endure through the ages, much like the celebrated World Cup-winning captains Kapil Dev and MS Dhoni.

“Rohit has five IPL trophies. He won a Champions League and has bid goodbye to T20I cricket with a T20 World Cup win. It will be remembered because only three Indians have lifted the World Cup trophy – Kapil Dev, MS Dhoni with two trophies, and one for Rohit Sharma. It will be remembered for centuries that Rohit Sharma was the captain who won the 2024 T20 World Cup,” Chopra said.

Rohit Sharma, who has captained the team in 62 T20 International matches, boasts an impressive record with 50 victories to his name. As a batsman, he has been equally outstanding, participating in 159 T20Is and amassing 4231 runs at an impressive average of 32.05.
