Dwayne Bravo, the former star of the West Indies cricket team, expressed gratitude towards the people of Afghanistan for recognizing his role in their cricket team’s historic advancement to the semifinals of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup. Afghanistan secured a crucial victory over Bangladesh by eight runs in a thrilling match at Arnos Vale Ground during the Super Eight stage.

Bravo provided strategic advice during the match, including guiding Afghanistan captain Rashid Khan on field placements and advising bowler Naveen-ul-Haq to vary his pace, which led to the dismissal of Mustafizur Rahman. The Afghanistan team honored Bravo’s contribution by celebrating with his famous song “Champion” in the dressing room after their victory.

In a video shared on Tuesday, Bravo expressed his appreciation for the overwhelming support shown by Afghan fans, who were chanting his name passionately.

“Afghanistan, thank you for the endless love and support. This is what it means to the people of afgh (Afghanistan). Champions of Afghanistan, inshallah we got this!” said Bravo in a post on his Instagram handle.

The post included a video showing a large gathering in an undisclosed location in Afghanistan chanting “DJ, DJ, DJ…” – which are Dwayne Bravo’s initials and a popular nickname in cricket circles.

Afghanistan will face South Africa in their inaugural appearance in the semifinals of any ICC event. Bravo expressed hope in his post that the team would continue their success and clinch the T20 World Cup title.
