Former Pakistan cricketer Tanvir Ahmed, known for his sharp criticism and provocative comments about Team India, has once again stirred controversy. Following India’s loss in the third ODI against Sri Lanka, Tanvir took to social media to mock the Indian team and head coach Gautam Gambhir. While the Indian team may not be significantly impacted, Indian fans are likely to take issue with his comments.
Tanvir Ahmed brutally trolls Team India and Gautam Gambhir
On social media platform X (formerly Twitter), Tanvir Ahmed posted, “Next time india walon ko bolain gay achi team ley kar Ana (Next time, we will tell Team India to bring a good team)🤣🤣🤣🤣.”
“India team ka ODI series harney ka gift Gautham ghambir (This is the gift of losing the ODI series, Gautam Gambhir)” Tanvir posted on X.
Tanvir Ahmed has a history of making derogatory remarks about the Indian team and its players. Recently, he escalated his criticism by targeting India’s legendary spinner Harbhajan Singh and even dared India to come to Pakistan for the Champions Trophy.
Sri Lanka batted first
India experienced a frustrating ODI series, suffering an unexpected defeat against a relatively inexperienced Sri Lankan team. In the final ODI, Sri Lanka won the toss and opted to bat first. They started strongly and, at 171-1, appeared poised for a substantial total.
However, Indian bowlers made a strong comeback, with debutant Riyan Parag leading the way. The spinners applied effective pressure, restricting the Sri Lankan middle order and preventing them from building momentum.
Kamindu Mendis contributed a brief but valuable cameo, helping Sri Lanka finish at 248-7 in their 50 overs. Opener Avishka Fernando scored 96 off 102 balls, including 9 fours and 2 sixes. Pathum Nissanka maintained his impressive form with 45 runs, and Kusal Mendis added a crucial 59 off 82 balls.
In terms of bowling, Indian spinners took the spotlight as Mohammed Siraj was the only specialist pacer in the playing XI. Axar Patel, Washington Sundar, and Kuldeep Yadav each claimed a wicket, while Riyan Parag delivered a notable performance with 3-54 in 9 overs.
India suffers another loss
Chasing a target of 249, India’s innings got off to a rocky start with Shubman Gill falling early, reflecting his lackluster performance throughout the ODI series. While Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma initially looked promising, the introduction of Sri Lankan spinners caused the run rate to plummet. Rohit Sharma’s attempt at a big slog sweep led to his dismissal.
This triggered a familiar collapse that had plagued India in the first two ODIs. Rishabh Pant, playing his first ODI since a severe car accident, was dismissed cheaply, and Virat Kohli also struggled to make an impact. The rest of the middle order failed to stabilize the innings.
Washington Sundar, batting at No. 9, provided some resistance with a knock of 30 off 25 balls, including 2 fours and 3 sixes. However, the target proved too daunting, and India fell short by 110 runs.
