BCCI secretary Jay Shah is poised to replace Greg Barclay as the chairman of the International Cricket Council (ICC). Shah will become the fifth Indian to lead the global cricket governing body, following Jagmohan Dalmiya (president), Sharad Pawar, N. Srinivasan, and Shashank Manohar. At just 34 years old, he will also be the youngest person ever to assume the role.
Greg Barclay will conclude his term as chairman of the ICC this November. Having assumed the role in November 2020 and being reelected unopposed in 2022, Barclay was eligible for a third and final term. However, he has chosen to step down before that term begins.
“ICC Chair Greg Barclay informed the Board that he will not stand for a third term and will step down from the role when his current tenure ends at the end of November,” the ICC had said in a statement earlier.
The deadline for submitting nominations for the position was August 27th. With Jay Shah as the only candidate, an election was unnecessary.
