In the latest ICC Rankings, several Indian cricketers have seen significant rises after their standout performances in the recently-concluded T20I series against Sri Lanka. Meanwhile, Joe Root has ascended to the number 1 position in the ICC Test Batsmen rankings.
Under the leadership of new captain Suryakumar Yadav, Team India began their journey on a high note by sweeping the series. The Men in Blue claimed victory in the first game by 43 runs and followed it up with a 7-wicket win (DLS method) in the second encounter. The third game ended in a tie, with India triumphing in the Super Over to seal a thrilling win over the hosts.
The Indian players made their mark with impressive performances both with the bat and ball throughout the series, resulting in significant improvements in the ICC T20I rankings. Opener Yashasvi Jaiswal, who amassed 80 runs across three matches, has climbed two places to fourth, while Shubman Gill has surged 16 spots to 21st position after scoring 73 runs.
In the bowling department, leg-spinner Ravi Bishnoi has re-entered the top ten of the ICC T20I Bowlers rankings, jumping eight spots to occupy the 10th position following his six-wicket haul in the series. Other Indian bowlers who have made strides in the rankings include Arshdeep Singh (up four places to 19th), Washington Sundar (up six spots to 40th), and Mohammed Siraj (up 37 places to 47th).
From the Sri Lankan camp, fast-bowler Matheesha Pathirana, who took 5 wickets in two innings, has risen 13 places to joint 77th position in the rankings. In the allrounders category, Australia’s Marcus Stoinis has claimed the top spot, displacing Wanindu Hasaranga. The former Sri Lankan skipper has slipped two places in the rankings after a lackluster series against India.
ICC Rankings for Test batters and bowlers:
Joe Root has dethroned Kane Williamson from the top spot in the Test batsmen rankings following a stellar performance in the recent three-match series against West Indies. The former England captain emerged as the leading run-scorer of the series, amassing 291 runs including one century and two half-centuries.
Following Root at the summit, Kane Williamson has slipped to second place, while Babar Azam of Pakistan and Daryl Mitchell of New Zealand share the third spot. Australia’s Steve Smith follows closely in fifth, with India’s Rohit Sharma rounding out the top six.
In the bowling rankings, England’s captain Ben Stokes has surged up four places to reach 30th position after claiming 5 wickets in the series. His teammates Mark Wood and Gus Atkinson have also made gains, with Wood climbing six spots to 20th and Atkinson moving up four places to 46th.
