Pat Cummins, the Australian captain, reflected on his team’s recent accomplishments, expressing gratitude for the fortunate trajectory of their careers.
Pat Cummins, the captain of the Australian Test and ODI teams, discussed his team’s dominant performance in international cricket, emphasizing the fortunate nature of their careers. The Australian team, under Cummins’ leadership, has achieved significant success, clinching the World Test Championship (WTC) and the ODI World Cup in 2023.
When questioned about where he would rank his team among the great Australian sides of the past two decades, the 31-year-old opted not to provide a specific ranking, stating that it is up to the public to assess. Cummins did mention that they have achieved nearly everything on their checklist and expressed satisfaction with the team’s progress.
“It’s not for me to say. We’ve ticked off almost everything that you would hope for. Most of the guys have won, the World Test Championship now, multiple World Cups. We all have been really really lucky with the careers that we’ve had. I will let others decide that but yeah really happy with how the group has been,” said Cummins in an exclusive conversation with SportsTak.
When questioned about the subdued reaction to their team in Australia following the World Cup triumph in India, Pat Cummins clarified that although there was excitement nationwide after the win, the atmosphere was somewhat distinct compared to the fervor experienced in India.
Cummins reflects on the restrained jubilation following Australia’s World Cup triumph.
“Yeah, that’s the essence of Australia. It’s wonderful, it’s tranquil. It’s a tad different because everyone disperses to various states. We didn’t have a grand unified celebration upon returning to Australia, but let me tell you, the buzz was palpable every time we stepped out onto the streets. Whether grabbing a coffee or just going about daily routines, for the following weeks, everyone was completely absorbed in that World Cup final, just like us players. It might not have been the spectacle you’d witness here if India clinched the victory, but believe me, many fans were genuinely elated,” he elaborated.
In the meantime, Cummins has steered SRH to their third Indian Premier League final after a commanding 36-run win over RR in Qualifier 2. Hyderabad is now poised to face off against KKR in the championship decider on Sunday, May 26, at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. With two major ICC trophies under his captaincy belt already, Captain Cummins will be keen on securing an IPL title as well.
