Mohsin Naqvi, Chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), has declined to grant No Objection Certificates (NOCs) to Babar Azam, Mohammad Rizwan, and Shaheen Afridi. He stated that these players will not receive NOCs ahead of the upcoming Bangladesh series.
Babar Azam, Shaheen Shah Afridi, and Mohammad Rizwan had applied for NOCs to participate in the Global T20 League scheduled to be held in Canada from July 25 to August 11. Meanwhile, Pakistan’s two-match Test series against Bangladesh is slated to commence around August 19.
Babar Azam, Mohammad Rizwan, and Shaheen Afridi have been refused No Objection Certificates (NOCs).
Speaking to reporters in Lahore, Mohsin Naqvi stressed the importance of Pakistani players prioritizing national commitments over participating in overseas leagues. Naqvi made it clear that players seeking No Objection Certificates (NOCs) will not be permitted to join foreign leagues before the upcoming Test series at home.
The Chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board also made a significant announcement regarding central contracts. Naqvi emphasized that only players meeting stringent fitness criteria will be eligible for central contracts. This includes both domestic and international cricketers who must pass fitness assessments, including the rigorous Yo-Yo test, without any exceptions.
“I also felt mistakes were made by Babar Azam. There will be also a post-mortem in the central contract, it will be subject to fitness. The players will have to give all the fitness tests,” the PCB chairman said.
Mohsin Naqvi – No Decision Taken So Far Related To Babar Azam
The PCB chairman further revealed that ex-cricketers will have a pivotal role in deciding the future of star batsman Babar Azam as captain of Pakistan’s white-ball team. Naqvi highlighted that international players who do not engage in domestic cricket will not qualify for selection back into the national team.
“No decision taken so far related to Babar Azam. I’m only speaking to those former cricketers who are interested in the betterment of Pakistan cricket,” Naqvi added.
Mohsin Naqvi clarified his earlier remarks regarding surgery, cautioning against making decisions impulsively. He underscored that those accountable for incorrect decisions within the selection committee will be held responsible.
“People are asking about surgery but one should not take any decision while you are angry. Whoever made wrong decisions in the selection committee will also be held accountable,” Naqvi said.
Mohsin Naqvi – Gary Kirsten Has Submitted A Detailed Report
The 45-year-old mentioned that head coach Gary Kirsten and assistant coach Azhar Mahmood were summoned for a meeting regarding the Pakistan team’s performance. Naqvi highlighted that Kirsten had presented a comprehensive report on the team’s showing at the recent T20 World Cup 2024 held in the West Indies and the USA.
“Kisten has also submitted a detailed report on Pakistan team’s performance in the T20 World Cup,” Naqvi added.
Led by Babar Azam, Pakistan experienced losses against the USA and India in their initial matches of the T20 World Cup 2024. As a result, the team was knocked out during the tournament’s group stage. It’s worth noting that Pakistan had reached the semifinals and were runners-up in the two preceding editions of the tournament.
