On Tuesday, India’s ‘Golden Boy’ Neeraj Chopra excelled in the men’s javelin qualification at the Paris Olympics 2024, delivering a colossal throw of 89.34 meters. This performance ranks as the second-best of his career, just shy of his 89.94 meters throw in Tokyo. Chopra, the reigning champion, expressed his readiness for the competitive javelin throw finals. Additionally, he has garnered significant support from Indian cricket star Rishabh Pant, who is currently in Sri Lanka for a white-ball series.
In his recent update on the microblogging platform X, wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant has announced a prize of INR 100,089 for fans who generate the most likes and comments. Additionally, the post promises flight tickets to the top 10 other participants.
“If Neeraj chopra win a gold medal tomorrow. I will pay 100089 Rupees to lucky winner who likes the tweet and comment most. And for the rest top 10 people trying to get the attention will get flight tickets. Let’s get support from india and outside the world for my brother,” Pant’s X post read.
Results from the javelin qualification
Chopra, who is also the current world champion, led the qualification round by a significant margin with his impressive throw. He topped the combined standings of both Group A and Group B. Grenadian thrower Anderson Peters, a two-time world champion, secured second place in both Group B and the overall rankings with a throw of 88.63 meters.
Julian Weber of Germany, who topped Group A with a throw of 87.76 meters, finished third overall. Additionally, Arshad Nadeem of Pakistan, the reigning Commonwealth Games champion, advanced to the finals with a throw of 86.59 meters in Group B.
Jakub Vadlejch of the Czech Republic, who clinched silver at the Tokyo Olympics and is the only athlete to have defeated Chopra this year at the Doha Diamond League, finished seventh overall with a first-round throw of 85.63 meters.
