India wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant expressed his enthusiasm for participating in the inaugural Delhi Premier League, highlighting it as a significant opportunity for young players to make a name for themselves and potentially earn a spot in the Indian Premier League.
The Delhi Premier League’s first edition is set to begin on August 17. The opening match will feature the Purani Delhi 6 against the South Delhi Superstarz, led by Ayush Badoni of the Lucknow Super Giants. The game will commence at 8:30 PM IST.
In a notable boost for the tournament, Rishabh Pant will play for the Purani Delhi 6 in the opening match before shifting his focus to training for the Duleep Trophy. Pant’s participation in this single game aims to set a positive tone for the league. He chose to play as a gesture of support for the Delhi District Cricket Association (DDCA), which has been instrumental in his career.
Speaking to the Purani Delhi 6 team, Pant emphasized that the league offers a tremendous platform for emerging players, providing them with significant exposure and a chance to attract attention at the grassroots level.
“I’m excited to play in Delhi Premier League because I feel on the ground level a very big opportunity for players who don’t get recognition in IPL. When people see playing you these leagues, they can pick you from these leagues. Hopefully, they (young players) have a good journey in the tournament.”
Joining Pant in the Purani Delhi 6 squad will be Ishant Sharma. The team has also secured 20-year-old opening batsman and off-spinner Arpit Rana, as well as right-arm pacer Prince Yadav.

Purani Delhi 6 owner Mr. Akash Nangia commented on the tournament, noting that the addition of Rishabh Pant and Ishant Sharma will infuse the team with valuable experience and skill. He expressed confidence that their presence will significantly impact the league.
