Indian cricket team’s standout wicketkeeper-batter, Rishabh Pant, set a T20 cricket record during the first game of the ongoing three-match T20I series against Sri Lanka at Pallekele International Cricket Stadium on July 27.
Pant became the second-fastest Indian to reach 5,000 T20 runs based on balls faced, with only the dynamic Suryakumar Yadav, India’s new T20I captain, ahead of him in this achievement.

The talented right-handed batter reached an incredible milestone in just 3,452 balls, which shows his aggressive batting style and consistency, making him one of the most dangerous players in the T20 format. Pant is now the second fastest-ever Indian to score 5,000 runs in the T20 history.
Notably, Pant played a stunning knock of 49 runs off 33 balls, and Suryakumar made 58 runs off just 26 balls to help Team India post 213/7 on the board in the first T20I against Sri Lanka on Saturday.
Later, Riyan Parag (3/5), Arshdeep Singh (2/24), and Axar Patel (2/38) bowled out Sri Lanka to 170 runs to win the match for the Men in Blue by 43 runs in Pallekele. As Pant continues to blaze new trails and set records, his journey has been an inspiration.
The wicketkeeper batter recently made his comeback to the international arena after his horrific car accident. Since making a comeback on the field, Pant has been regularly delivering standout performances with the bat and behind and the stumps.

Pant was also part of India’s 2024 T20 World Cup 2024-winning team. Notably, Pant was dropped down to the fourth spot in the first T20I against Sri Lanka, and Axar Patel revealed that it was due to the team’s combination of left and right-handed batters in the line-up.
Axar Patel said at the post-match press conference: “If you have that chance (to ensure) that there are no two lefties or two righties (in the middle) at the same time. If you have that chance, if you have those players in batting, then why not use them? You also have to keep changing the batting order as per the bowling options that the opposition has got.”
