On Friday, August 2, Rohit Sharma made his return to action for Team India during the first ODI of the three-match series against Sri Lanka. The 37-year-old right-handed opener delivered an aggressive fifty, amassing 58 runs from 47 balls, which included seven boundaries and three sixes.
In the process, Rohit set a new record, surpassing Eoin Morgan’s mark for the most sixes hit by a captain in international cricket. As of now, Rohit Sharma has hit 234 sixes in 124 matches as India’s captain, taking the top spot.
Eoin Morgan, who guided England to the ODI World Cup title in 2019, concluded his career with 233 sixes across 198 matches. Former India captain MS Dhoni holds the third spot with 211 sixes from 332 matches.

In the first ODI, alongside surpassing Eoin Morgan’s record, Rohit Sharma also achieved another milestone by becoming the second Indian opener to amass 15,000 runs in international cricket.
Leading six-hitter in international cricket
Rohit Sharma holds the record for the most sixes in international cricket. His T20I career includes 205 sixes across 159 matches, while in Tests he has 84 sixes and in ODIs, he has 326 sixes from 263 matches.
In the ODIs, Rohit ranks third for the most sixes. During the second ODI against Sri Lanka on Sunday, August 4, he aims to surpass Chris Gayle’s record of 331 sixes and move into the second spot.
The record for the most sixes in ODIs belongs to former Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi, who hit 351 sixes in his 398-match career.
Rohit, who made his ODI debut on June 23, 2007, against Ireland, has accumulated 10,767 runs in 263 ODIs. If he scores at least two runs in Sunday’s match, he will surpass Rahul Dravid’s record of 10,768 runs, becoming India’s fourth-highest run-scorer in ODIs.
