As Bangladesh prepares for its two-Test series against Pakistan later this month, opener Zakir Hasan has shared details about the team’s strategies for the upcoming matches.
Hasan recognized the significant challenge presented by Pakistan’s elite pace attack. He disclosed that the Bangladeshi batsmen have been diligently preparing to face this formidable bowling lineup by engaging in rigorous training sessions and analyzing video footage of the Pakistani bowlers.
Zakir Hasan opens up about Bangladesh’s intense preparation for Pakistan Test series
Bangladesh is focusing on equipping its players with the skills needed to handle the pace and bounce of Pakistan’s bowlers. By implementing this strategy, the team aims to effectively tackle the challenges posed by Pakistan’s attack.
Zakir Hasan, who has yet to play a Test in Pakistan, is eager to experience the conditions firsthand. Additionally, the Bangladesh team will play an A-team match before the Test series, which will further aid their adaptation to the Pakistani pitches and conditions.
Zakir Hasan was quoted as saying by Cricbuzz: “If you look at the Pakistan bowlers, they have always been really good… they have world-class bowlers. So, if you play Test or any format against them, it will be tough and challenging to face their pace bowlers. At the same time, we are also working on that and have worked on that in the camps and also seen the video analysis.
So, we have tried to take preparations accordingly. Now let’s see. We have an A-team match there. I once played a one-day there in the emerging Asia Cup but never played a Test. Hopefully, if I get to play a test there, I’ll get a better understanding of the wicket.”
On the challenge of Pakistan’s reverse swing, Zakir said: “It’s a big factor (reverse swing). If you see, their bowlers are really good at reversing the ball when it becomes old. So, what I think is that even if we are set, the reversing balls will be a challenge.”
Bangladesh ‘A’ team to play crucial matches in Pakistan ahead of Test series
The Bangladesh ‘A’ team will play two four-day matches against the Shaheens in Pakistan as part of their preparation for the Test series. Zakir Hasan explained that Bangladesh is following India’s example by sending their ‘A’ team ahead of the main squad. This approach aims to give the players valuable experience and help them acclimate to local conditions before the Test series begins.
This advance exposure is intended to enhance the team’s understanding of the playing environment and allow for necessary adjustments, improving their overall preparation. It also provides both current national team players and those on the fringes an opportunity to refine their skills. The Test series between Pakistan and Bangladesh is scheduled to start on August 21 in Rawalpindi, with the second Test taking place in Karachi from August 30.
