Former Indian spinner Harbhajan Singh is currently making waves with his outspoken criticism of Pakistan. Over the past few days, he has been in the spotlight for his comments on the BCCI’s decision to not send Team India to Pakistan for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025.
The 2011 World Cup champion has recently affirmed his support for the BCCI’s stance on the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy 2024, stressing that security concerns in Pakistan are a major issue. He echoed the BCCI’s view that the Indian cricket team should not travel to Pakistan for the tournament, emphasizing that the safety of players must be the top priority.
Harbhajan Singh questions, “Why should the Indian team go to Pakistan?”
Harbhajan Singh was quoted as saying by IANS: “Why should the Indian team go to Pakistan? The security issue there is significant. The situation in Pakistan is such that incidents occur almost every day. I don’t think it’s safe to go there. The stance of the BCCI is absolutely correct, and nothing is more important than the safety of our players.”
The former Indian spinner’s remarks have drawn sharp criticism from Pakistani journalists and ex-cricketers, who have been targeting the Rajya Sabha Member with relentless and disparaging comments across social media.
Noticing the excessive trolling, Harbhajan responded with a strong retort to his Pakistani critics and media. He chose to revisit past controversies on social media, particularly in response to Pakistani journalist Farid Khan, who had taunted him by sharing a scorecard from India’s 2006 tour to Pakistan, where Shahid Afridi hit Harbhajan for four sixes.
Harbhajan Singh hits back at Pakistani trolls, citing the 2009 terror attack as evidence of persistent security concerns.
The Pakistani journalist used Harbhajan’s security concerns as a way to mock him, suggesting it was just an excuse to avoid sending the Indian cricket team to Pakistan for the Champions Trophy. However, Harbhajan soon turned the tables, launching a fierce rebuttal that was seen by the world.
He responded by retweeting the journalist’s post and sharing a screenshot of a 2009 newspaper article about the terrorist attack on the Sri Lankan cricket team’s bus in Pakistan. Through this, Harbhajan emphasized the persistent security problems in Pakistan, underscoring why the BCCI is hesitant to send the team there for the 2025 Champions Trophy.
Accompanying the screenshot, which brought to light Pakistan’s troubling past, Harbhajan Singh commented in the caption: “No not for this. Cricket Mai Jeet har lagi rehti hai. I will tell u the real problem is this . Check the photo ⬇️ . Now get the F…. out of here . F ka Matlab samaj aa gya hoga ya samjau? F means ur name . Plz don’t think what u r thinking th meaning of F. You know what I mean ✌️Peace”
It’s important to remember that in 2009, Pakistani terrorists targeted a bus carrying Sri Lankan cricketers in Lahore, highlighting long-standing safety concerns for visiting teams. For instance, New Zealand withdrew from their Test series in Pakistan after a suicide bombing near their hotel in May 2002, and Australia canceled a tour scheduled for October 2002 due to similar security fears.
