Former Pakistan wicketkeeper Moin Khan has criticized the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) for its “flawed” cricketing system. He attributes the recent struggles of the Pakistan cricket team to these systemic issues, which have been highlighted by the team’s poor performance in recent months.
Khan expressed his disappointment with both the team’s performance and the PCB’s management, particularly after Pakistan’s early exit from the T20 World Cup 2024. He has called for a revamped system to rejuvenate Pakistan cricket and address the current challenges.
Moin Khan lashes out at PCB for the lack of a proper system in Pakistan cricket
Moin Khan clearly stated that there is no planning in Pakistan cricket which has led to its downfall. He claimed that Pakistan’s current cricket system is flawed which is the reason why the national team is going through such tough times.
“There was no visible planning in the cricket team. There is a system under which players come and go. When the system gets flawed, problems arise,” Moin Khan said.
Pakistan cricket is going through one of its worst times right now. The national team was eliminated from the T20 World Cup 2024 in the group stage after suffering defeats at the hands of the USA and India. They managed to win their next two matches against Canada and Ireland but that did not prove to be enough for them to qualify for the Super 8 stage.
The defeat to the USA in the Super Over was particularly shocking for the Men in Green as they boast a huge amount of experience as compared to the USA and were expected to win the match easily. The loss to a lower-ranked team affected their confidence levels which was visible in their next game against India.
Pakistan’s campaign in T20 World Cup 2024
Pakistan faced another narrow defeat against their arch-rivals India in their next match. Despite having control of the game, they faltered towards the end and lost to their competitors.
This loss triggered widespread criticism from various quarters in Pakistan. Former cricketers and experts have heavily criticized the team and called for a complete overhaul.
White-ball captain Babar Azam is under significant pressure, with questions surrounding his captaincy and recent batting performances. As Pakistan prepares for its next white-ball series in November, it remains to be seen if Babar Azam will retain his captaincy.
PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi has demanded a thorough “surgery” within the team following these poor performances. Consequently, the PCB has removed selectors Wahab Riaz and Abdul Razzaq from their positions.
It’s clear that Pakistan’s current system is failing to produce the caliber of cricketers it once did. Although there is talent in the country, the lack of a robust system has hindered its cricketing progress.
