Nitish Reddy might face backlash from fans after making a controversial statement about the legendary MS Dhoni. The young cricketer has gained widespread recognition due to his impressive performances in the recently concluded 17th season of the Indian Premier League.
At 21 years old, Reddy has garnered admiration for his skill and composure, delivering several remarkable innings under pressure. Many are already touting him as a future star and potential mainstay in India’s all-rounder role. Reddy captured attention by scoring 64 runs off just 37 balls against the Punjab Kings in only his second IPL match.
In total, he amassed an impressive 303 runs in 11 innings, averaging 33.66 with a strike rate of 142.92 in his debut IPL season. Additionally, he took three wickets and showcased his exceptional fielding abilities. Despite receiving accolades from all quarters, Nitish Reddy may soon face severe criticism for claiming that MS Dhoni lacks batting technique.
MS Dhoni has talent but not technique: Watch as Nitish Reddy’s controversial remark goes viral
Although Reddy likely did not mean to disrespect the former India captain, his remark could disappoint many. In a widely circulated video on social media, the young all-rounder stated that, despite Dhoni’s talent, he lacks proper technique.
“Dhoni has talent, in the sense that…. talent is there but the technique is not there. Dhoni doesn’t have Virat Kohli’s range of techniques,” Reddy said in a Bhaje Vaayu Vegham movie promotion.
“MS Dhoni’s batting techniques is not par with Virat Kohli, but he is a legend because he knows his strengths and game play. That’s why he became a champion,” he said in another video.
Meanwhile, Reddy recently discussed his preparations for IPL 2024. The young player mentioned that he had not set any specific goals for himself, saying:
“To be honest, I personally don’t have any personal goals like I had to score this many runs or to maintain this much strike rate and all that. I used to think that I might get the opportunity in finishing role. So I practiced for that in net sessions and in the off-season as well.
“I practiced my downswing as well and power hitting, you name it. So that’s what I went through my preparations. I never looked into personal goals of scoring this many runs or that many, just wanted to prepare according to the role in which the team needs me,” he added while speaking to India TV.
