Sunil Chhetri, the former captain of the Indian football team, has a close friendship with Virat Kohli, one of India’s top cricketers. They’ve openly expressed their admiration for each other and often speak highly in public about their bond. Chhetri, who recently retired from professional football, shared insights into Kohli’s humorous side, noting that the cricketer has a knack for lightening the mood and making people laugh effortlessly.
During a podcast with YouTube’s Raj Shamani, Chhetri disclosed the nature of his conversations with Kohli, revealing that their discussions typically revolve around topics like food and sharing funny memes.
“Virat sends funny memes, I send back as well – that is the majority chat. Sometimes, we talk about life. The best thing is that, when I tell something, he says ‘I understand’,” Chettri told Shamani.
Describing Kohli’s nature as a human being, Chettri said, “I genuinely like him. Forget that he is Virat Kohli. The whole world knows it.”
“He is a good dude. He is genuinely a nice guy. I’m sure that many people will never get to know that part of him. He is amazingly funny. Even if I bring him and if you are oblivious to the fact that he’s Virat Kohli, he will crack you up. He is funny, apart from the fact that all the other great things he is. He is a good guy which is nowadays very difficult.
“Some way our upbringing is the same. We come from the same place, we have similar dreams; we just chose 2 different sports. That is why probably we connected. I have so much love & respect for him & his family,” he added.
Kohli decided to step away from T20Is following India’s victorious campaign at the T20 World Cup in Barbados. The team secured a thrilling victory over South Africa in the final, clinching the trophy by a margin of 7 runs. Kohli made the announcement about his retirement on June 29, marking the end of an era in his T20 international career.
“This was my last T20 World Cup, this is exactly what we wanted to achieve. One day you feel like you can’t get a run and this happens, God is great. Just the occasion, now or never kind of situation. This was my last T20 game playing for India. We wanted to lift that cup,” said Virat Kohli in the post-match presentation.
