VVS Laxman, the former Indian cricketer, will be concluding his tenure as the ‘Head of Cricket’ at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in September. Recently, he expressed reluctance to pursue the role of Team India’s head coach following Rahul Dravid’s departure after the T20 World Cup 2024.
Laxman was widely seen as a natural successor given his extensive experience and his interim coaching responsibilities at the NCA. However, he opted not to apply for the position, citing the rigorous demands it would place on him physically and mentally over the next three and a half years.
In 2025, the NCA will move to a new expansive facility on the outskirts of Bengaluru, equipped with multiple full-sized cricket grounds, a modern gym, a swimming pool, and residential accommodations. As VVS Laxman prepares to step down from his role as Head of Cricket at the NCA, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) faces the task of selecting his successor.
Vikram Rathour to replace VVS Laxman at NCA.
Vikram Rathour, the former batting coach for India, emerges as a strong contender to replace VVS Laxman at the National Cricket Academy (NCA). Rathour boasts significant familiarity with the NCA environment, having served as a batting coach there, and brings a wealth of experience from his four-year tenure as a national selector. His reputation for profound technical expertise positions him prominently as a preferred candidate for the position.
“Heard after Rahul Dravid, another legend is expected to leave the Indian cricket set-up due to personal reasons after a successful stint. Vikram Rathour might be the top contender for the post,” a sports journalist tweeted.
