“This is not the time for goodbyes, as I remain completely focussed on the season ahead and supporting the Board on succession and a smooth transition,” Hockley said.
Nick Hockley has revealed his intention to resign as Chief Executive of Cricket Australia (CA) in March 2025. Over his five-year tenure, Hockley has played a key role in guiding the sport through difficult periods and achieving significant successes both on and off the field.
Hockley’s leadership began during the Covid-19 pandemic when he was initially appointed on an interim basis in 2020. He officially assumed the role full-time in May 2021. His guidance was pivotal in managing the challenges of maintaining cricket operations amid border restrictions and in securing the financial health of the sport in Australia.
“This was a difficult decision, however following what promises to be a blockbuster summer and with our five-year strategic plan well progressed, this is the right time to pursue another challenge, while giving the Board plenty of time to find its next CEO to build on the strong foundations now in place. This is not the time for goodbyes, as I remain completely focussed on the season ahead and supporting the Board on succession and a smooth transition,” Hockley said as quoted by ESPNcricinfo.
Nick navigated the sport through a period of unprecedented challenge: Mike Baird
Throughout his tenure as CEO, Hockley navigated and triumphed over numerous major challenges. He effectively managed the 2020-21 Test series against India under stringent COVID-19 restrictions. Additionally, Hockley was instrumental in resolving conflicts with broadcasters and securing new broadcasting agreements.
“As CEO, Nick navigated the sport through a period of unprecedented challenge during the pandemic and has delivered significant growth and stability. Under Nick’s leadership, several major deals are now in place – many for the next seven years – and the game is set up for continued success,” CA chair Mike Baird said.
A significant achievement under his leadership was the more seamless negotiation of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) compared to 2017, which led to substantial pay increases for women cricketers.
Under his leadership, Australian cricket teams attained notable success, securing World Cup titles in both the men’s and women’s T20 and ODI formats, and the men’s team also clinched the World Test Championship.
“As Nick says, his full focus is on delivering another successful summer for our fans, players, broadcasters, partners and the whole of Australian Cricket and there will be time to celebrate his legacy and achievements when he steps down from the role next year,” Baird concluded.
