The Hong Kong International Cricket Sixes, a renowned event that captivated cricket fans from 1992 to 2017, is set to make a comeback with a three-day festival this November. Hong Kong boasts a rich cricketing heritage in East Asia, with its first official match recorded in 1842. The city has punched above its weight on the global stage, with both its men’s and women’s teams ranked in the top twenty out of the 108 International Cricket Council (ICC) members.
During its prime, the Hong Kong International Cricket Sixes featured cricketing legends such as Sachin Tendulkar, Brian Lara, and Shane Warne, solidifying its reputation as a unique and beloved tournament.
After a seven-year hiatus, the Hong Kong International Sixes is set to return this year, showcasing the world’s fastest form of cricket. Sanctioned by the International Cricket Council (ICC) and organized by Cricket Hong Kong, China (CHK), the tournament will be held with the support of the Hong Kong Government.
The 2024 edition of the event is scheduled to take place from November 1-3 at the Tin Kwong Road Cricket Ground. Over the course of three days, twelve nations will compete in this thrilling and fast-paced format.
“We are excited to bring back this iconic event that showcases our city as a truly world city and a sporting capital of East Asia to the world and our cricket credentials. The strategic plan is to develop the Hong Kong Sixes into a global series, culminating every year with the grand finale at home,” said Chairperson of Cricket Hong Kong, China Burji Shroff.
The Hong Kong Sixes has a storied history dating back to 1992 and has featured some of cricket’s most celebrated players. Legends like Sachin Tendulkar, Shane Warne, M.S. Dhoni, Wasim Akram, Shoaib Malik, Sanath Jayasuriya, Anil Kumble, Umar Akmal, Glenn Maxwell, and Damien Martyn have showcased their exceptional skills on this stage. Teams from cricketing giants such as India, Australia, England, Pakistan, and South Africa have also participated, contributing to the tournament’s global fanbase and illustrious reputation.
